Giving adults with mental illnesses a choice…and a chance.

Auction Items

Housing Options for the Mentally Ill in Evanston is celebrating its 20th year! As we experience this significant milestone, we want you to be part of the celebration.  Our goal is to bring everyone together to raise valuable funds so that we can continue to make a difference to adults recovering from mental illnesses for the next 20 years.

How can you contribute?  By becoming involved in our Feb. 14, 2009 Home Is Where the Heart Is benefit, and by donating items for our silent auction that create excitement, interest and value! Click here for a donation form. Questions about donating? Contact Karen Palmer at kpalmer@housingopt.org.

A few facts about our benefit:

  • It's one of the most important ways we raise funds to provide housing and support for the 70+ participants we serve every day
  • Attended by 300 people, our benefit generates about 20 percent of our non-governmental revenue
  • It's cost effective, with more than two thirds of the funds generated going directly to ongoing operations
  • It offers a terrific marketing opportunity. You will be listed as a donor in our benefit program, and will be highlighted in our spring newsletter, which reaches more than 4,000 people

As you probably already know, Housing Options is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1988 that has provided affordable, supportive housing and services to more than 150 adults recovering from chronic mental illnesses. All of our participants work with our team of social workers, counselors, case managers, psychiatrists, and a nurse. Besides mental health services, participants receive physical health care, life skills training, money management, and job skills training. The majority of our participants live in agency owned apartments, which are all fully furnished.

Along with creating very necessary funds, our Home Is Where the Heart Is benefit creates an important opportunity to increase visibility in the community, and advance the understanding of mental illnesses and the importance of supportive housing.

The event will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Woman’s Club of Evanston. Along with our wonderful silent auction, we will feature a cocktail reception, raffle, and entertainment by the Chicago Bar Association’s satirical musical revue.

Thank you very much for considering a donation of a silent auction item to help us make our next benefit the best yet. Your tax-deductible contribution will help to ensure that we can continue to be a leading advocate for adults recovering from mental illnesses.

  Sincerely,

Housing Options’ 2009 Benefit Committee
