Giving adults with mental illnesses a choice…and a chance.

Gavin House

Gavin House is a two flat and home to four residents. The building was purchased in 2003 and was opened specifically for older residents who experience mobility problems. By opening Gavin House, Housing Options made a commitment to allow the women who live there to age in place, rather than having to relocate and adjust to new surroundings, case managers, neighbors, and routines.

Most of the women at Gavin House would be in institutional settings were it not for the program. A permanent home provides stability and safety, which helps residents in the recovery process.

In addition to a new roof and electrical system, Housing Options has done extensive work to Gavin House in order to accommodate the needs of the three older women who occupy the building’s large ground-floor apartment. One of the unit’s two bathrooms was gut-rehabbed and now features a walk-in shower and easy-to-use fixtures. New lever-style door knobs were also installed throughout the building.

Gavin House was named after a founding member of Housing Options, Larry Gavin. Mr. Gavin presently sits on the agency’s Advisory Council.
