Housing
As of 2006, Housing Options owns 6 apartment buildings and leases approximately 20 additional apartments throughout the city of Evanston. The agency owns or leases property in every ward in Evanston and fully furnishes and equips all of its apartments with furniture, appliances, linens, and dishes. Most residents live in two- or three-bedroom apartments, but each has his or her own bedroom.
To help ensure that our housing is affordable to residents, rent is paid on a sliding scale. Because our residents all have low incomes, Housing Options provides rent subsidy. Our housing is subsidized so that the adults with mental illnesses we serve are able to concentrate on their recovery. As more than half of our residents have been homeless at some point in their lives, providing a safe and comfortable home is essential to the recovery process.
The agency prides itself on the way in which it maintains its buildings. The agency’s buildings blend into their neighborhoods and are exceptionally well maintained. Between $75,000 - $100,000 is spent annually on renovations, improvements, repairs, and maintenance of its buildings. The agency spent more than $1,000,000 to renovate its sixth building, Rose House, which was acquired in 2006.

“My company has many Housing Options residents living in apartment buildings we manage in the area. The work that Housing Options does with its residents enables them to live as independently as possible. By being proactive and involved with its residents, Housing Options makes my job as a landlord much easier. I welcome the opportunity when Housing Options wants to rent an apartment from me.” — Al Belmonte
